João Leitão holds a PhD in Information Systems and Computer Engineering from the Instituto Superior Técnico of the Technical University of Lisbon (2012). Previously he graduated (2006) and obtained a Master (2007) in Computer Engineering from the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon. He conducts his research in the the NOVA Laboratory for Computer Science and Informatics (NOVA LINCS) of the Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia da Universidade de Lisboa. He is also an Invited Assistant Professor at the Informatics Department at Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia da Universidade de Lisboa. His research interests are focused on the design of fault-tolerant and efficient large-scale systems with particular interest in geo-distributed, cloud computing and peer-to-peer systems. His research is aligned with the strategic project of NOVA LINCS focusing on the design of new large-scale systems. He is a member of the ACM and IEEE.
