Virtualization and Management of Application Apliances

VIRTU is designed to configure and manage application stacks on virtualized environments. It introduces an innovative approach for configuring and automatically deploying fully configured virtual machines with applications, independently of the virtualization provider.

VIRTU is conceived to enable on-demand configuration and deployment of Virtual Machines and applications independently of the vendor.

Initially developed for the European Space Agency to enhance software testing and development of complex distributed systems, it has evolved to become a tool for IT application and infrastructure management.

By allowing configuration of Virtual Machines at the application level (application configuration), VIRTU provides a fine-grained creation and provisioning tool of Virtual Machines and configurable Application Stacks for an IT infrastructure, or testing infrastructure for complex systems.

The project aims to develop the VIRTU tool for the management and configuration of applications on a virtualized environment. The development uses as baseline the GoVI solution being developed by ORISTEBA/EVOLVE to the European Space Agency (ESA), and will make improvements on the way to generalize the solutions to other customers in particular the configuration of applications.
This tool targets mainly the use cases of testing and developing applications in complex distributed environments as well as the server infrastructure consolidation. Its commercialization is foreseen as a product complemented with services.
